WORLD LANGUAGE

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course develops basic skills of target World Language within the context of each target World Language culture. Content includes listening comprehension pronunciation reading, writing, listening and speaking and interpersonal communication skills. No prior study of the language is presumed.

Learning Objectives

1   To actively communicate in target World Language making spontaneous use of structures and vocabulary studied.

2   To demonstrate an appreciation of the target World Language culture through written and oral classwork.

3   To demonstrate spoken World Language and everyday context to responding to simple basic questions.

4   To illustrate reading comprehension to answering relevant questions on uncomplicated selections.

5   To use elements of beginning grammar through listening, spoken and written exercises.

6   To write simple sentences within the context of what is being studied.

 

Academic Integrity

Students at Murray Language Academy are required to demonstrate academic integrity and follow the CPS Code of Conduct which prohibits the following:

  • Cheating

  • Plagiarism

  • Falsification and Fabrication

  • Helping others to cheat

  • Any other behaviour that violates academic integrity

  • Please review the code the CPS Code of Conduct in the handbook

 

Methods of Instruction

All World Language classes includes media base instruction, handouts and text during class time is devoted to pronunciation drills analysis of sentence structure sentence building writing and conversation.  Students are expected to prepare for and studying assignments prior to class following and using the instructor their teacher has given during class.

 

Course Practices Required

  • Be prepared for class

  • Study at home using notes and or media or electronic website

  • Study every day at home

  • Listen and give careful consideration to all ideas expressed in class especially those that are different from your own without attacking or demeaning the different cultures you are learning about.

  • Avoid using insulting terms or telling offensive jokes when talking about individuals or groups.

 

Instructional Materials

Note:  All World Language classes textbooks, handouts, and electronic media are provided for students.  Students will also be provided with online resources to use for their World Language class. Handouts or electronic assignments must be turned in by students on time.
