SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL

4TH TO 8TH GRADES

Stories in Spanish

Children's stories in Spanish with an optional English translation and slow audio in Spanish. As you listen to the story you can read it as well. Text is located below the video. Many thanks to our art teacher Mr. D. Brown for this resource.

Are you bored at home?  Looking for some entertainment and (gasp) learning?

Your brain is designed to learn language by reading and listening to Spanish that you can make sense of. While you are not in Spanish class, you can continue to improve your Spanish proficiency by reading and interacting with some texts in Spanish. The first ones with asterisks are the ones that I think are the most efficient use of your time while acquiring language and progressing with your proficiency.

 


 

Comprehensible Input

  1. *50- Read a Revista Literal story and complete 2 choice board activities (can do this with as many stories as you want.

  3. *50- Earn a badge on Señor Wooly. Screenshot or take a picture of the screen showing your progress for credit. (can be repeated for each one completed)

  5. *50- Watch a video on Pablo’s Dreaming Spanish YouTube channel. Turn on the captions in Spanish by hitting the CC button. Write a summary in English. (Can be completed multiple times with different videos) Use super-beginner and beginner videos. Intermediate videos may be comprehensible for Spanish 2.

  7. *50- Complete a story and the activities with it in Duolingo Stories. Screenshot or take a picture of the screen showing your progress for credit. (can be repeated for one completed) Your username and password can be found in Google classroom.

  9. *50-Complete an assignment on Garbanzo.io Setup instructions are on Classroom. This is a site that I subscribe to and you get free access for my students. I will assign interesting stories that I think you’ll like or you can choose your own! 

  10. *75-Read this story about Yoga by teacher LaReina Peelen and how it helps with stress. Answer the questions and add it to your log!

  11. *50-Complete a lesson on Conjuguemos! and do the graded practice. Post in google classroom the lesson(s) you completed and the grade you got on the graded classroom. No judgments here!! Remember that your username and password are in a google sheet on Google Classroom.

Music

  1. 25-Make a TikTok with you lip-syncing along to one of these Locura de Marzo songs, share link to your log and/or google classroom.

  2. 50-Make an interpretive dancing TikTok with you lip-syncing along to one of these Locura de Marzo songs, and dramatically acting out the lyrics as you lip-sync them. Share a link to your log and/or google classroom.

  3. 25-Search YouTube for any of the Locura de Marzo songs + Zumba. Dance along and post a picture or video link to the Classroom and to the log. 

  4. 25-Search YouTube for any of these Locura de Marzo songs + Just Dance. Dance along and post a picture or video link to the Classroom and to the log. 

  5. 25-Go to lyricstraining.com using this link to complete the activities for songs, including several from the last few years of Locura de Marzo.  Screenshot your score and post it to the log. Toggle choice mode to pick words, or write mode to type the lyrics in. 

 

Language Practice

  1. 25- Complete a new level in Duolingo. Screenshot or take a picture of the screen showing your progress for credit. (can be repeated for each level achieved) Sign up with your school Google account. 

  2. 25- Watch a video on the Tiempo de Leer YouTube channel. This channel has classic kids books read out loud in Spanish with illustrations shown in the video. Write a summary in English. Use captions in Spanish when available.

  3. 25- Read a Newsela article in Spanish. Find an article that interests you. Filter...choose Spanish language and set to 2nd-grade reading level. Remember, these are written for native speakers, not Spanish learners, so they may be challenging. Complete a quiz and see how you do. 

  4. 25- Listen to an episode of Coffee Break Spanish, which is a podcast for language learners featuring stories and dialogues. Episodes posted on various podcast platforms. Scroll back to the beginning of the feed to find Season 1, or jump around to find the Season that’s good for your level. 

  5. 25- Watch a video on the Canal Pakapaka YouTube channel that features kids' shows from Argentina. Fun stories with cute animations.

  6. 25 - Participate in some listening practice. Visit this site and complete the online activity associated with any listening option. Take a screenshot or picture of the finished screen for credit.

  7. 25 - Watch a Spanish language film or tv show on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney+ or Youtube. Fill out the movie review worksheet for credit.

  8. 25 - Write a paragraph describing yourself, friends and/or family and what they like to do in Spanish.

  9. 25 - Go to Epic and read a book in Spanish! Complete this book report to get credit. 

Cultural

  1. 25 - Learn about Semana Santa and write a summary in English of what the holiday celebrates and the history behind it.

  2. 25 - How do you like your coffee? Take a video where you pretend to order your preferred coffee in Spanish according to the infographic linked here. Be sure to use a complete sentence in Spanish. Here’s an example video.

  3. 25 - Have you heard of Bad Bunny? He’s an up and coming Puerto Rican rapper who is making his way up the charts in the U.S. Read more about him and listen to some of his songs. Then write 10 sentences in Spanish giving your opinion of his music and sharing which is your favorite and why.

Family Fun

  1. 50 - Create a character from an object & write a short story about it, just like we have done in class, in Spanish! Then get your family involved and act it out together!

  2. 25 - Practice your listening and do any 2 of these Yoga videos with someone in our family. Get a photo and add the link to your log and share it to Google Classroom.

  4. 25 - Get cooking! Find a recipe that has Hispanic roots (Central America, South America or Spain) and make it! Share it with your family. Record their opinions and the food you’ve made in a video! (yo prefiero/pienso que, ella no prefiere/piensa que, etc.)

  5. 25 - Play “El Semáforo”, a popular game in both English and Spanish but play using only Spanish words. Teach your siblings and family members a few easy words and earn a bonus! Record a video of you playing for credit. El semáforo is an outdoor game that’s perfect for kids to practice Spanish.

  6. Everyone lines up and an adult, or designated player, call out commands: “verde” (green) for run, “amarillo” (yellow) for walk, and “rojo” (red) for stop.

  7. Sound familiar? El semáforo is just like the English game Red Light – Green Light.

  8. 25 - Pick any traditional Mexican game and play it with your family! Record a video of you playing for credit.
